چکیده

A new genus and species of myrmeciine ants, also called bulldog is described illustrated from the Palaeocene Menat (France) as Tyrannomecia inopinata gen. et sp. nov. This taxon represents oldest representative subfamily provides calibration point for total clade Myrmeciinae. It shows apomorphic characters used to define Myrmeciinae: mandibles elongate such that their length three-quarters or more head length, third abdominal segment (AIII) substantially smaller than fourth (AIV), with its height distinctly less one. easily differentiated all other ants owing petiole a conspicuous tooth located dorsally on posterior declivity, considered belong stem-Myrmeciinae. Aside aspects, this taxon, possessing hunter morphology, discuss implications recovery after K/Pg.

The oldest fossil of a melittid bee (Hymenoptera: Apiformes) from the early Eocene of Oise (France)

Phylogenetic relationships among and within major groups of bees are still poorly resolved. The main gap is the identification of the basal branch of bee phylogeny. In this context, more information is needed about the early fossil record of bees. Here, we describe Palaeomacropis eocenicus gen. nov. sp. nov. , discovered in early Eocene amber of Oise (France). It is the oldest record of Melitti...

The oldest fossil mushroom

A new fossil mushroom is described and illustrated from the Lower Cretaceous Crato Formation of northeast Brazil. Gondwanagaricites magnificus gen. et sp. nov. is remarkable for its exceptional preservation as a mineralized replacement in laminated limestone, as all other fossil mushrooms are known from amber inclusions. Gondwanagaricites represents the oldest fossil mushroom to date and the fi...

Drancourtella massiliensis gen. nov., sp. nov. isolated from fresh healthy human faecal sample from South France

Strain GD1(T) gen. nov., sp. nov., is the type strain of the newly proposed genus and species Drancourtella massiliensis, belonging to the Clostridiales order. This strain, isolated from the stool of a healthy person, is a Gram-positive rod, oxygen intolerant and nonmotile, with spore-forming activity. The features of this organism and its genome sequence are described. The draft genome is 3 05...

No post-Cretaceous ecosystem depression in European forests? Rich insect-feeding damage on diverse middle Palaeocene plants, Menat, France.

Insect herbivores are considered vulnerable to extinctions of their plant hosts. Previous studies of insect-damaged fossil leaves in the US Western Interior showed major plant and insect herbivore extinction at the Cretaceous-Palaeogene (K-T) boundary. Further, the regional plant-insect system remained depressed or ecologically unbalanced throughout the Palaeocene. Whereas Cretaceous floras had...

Kretzoiarctos gen. nov., the Oldest Member of the Giant Panda Clade

The phylogenetic position of the giant panda, Ailuropoda melanoleuca (Carnivora: Ursidae: Ailuropodinae), has been one of the most hotly debated topics by mammalian biologists and paleontologists during the last century. Based on molecular data, it is currently recognized as a true ursid, sister-taxon of the remaining extant bears, from which it would have diverged by the Early Miocene. However...
